Overview
Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, known as IRP, is a multipurpose racing complex in Brownsburg, Indiana, with a 0.686-mile paved oval and a drag strip. It is best known outside NASCAR as the home of the NHRA U.S. Nationals, drag racing's biggest annual event, held there since 1961.
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series raced at IRP from its first season in 1995 through 2011, then returned in 2022. The race sits on the same weekend that the Cup Series runs at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, seven miles away. In 2027 the Truck Series races at IRP on Friday, July 23, two days before the Cup Series race at the Speedway.
The winners of the last two IRP races, Riggs in 2025 and 2026, both swept the race's stages, the scored segments that split each race. In 2026 he led 198 of the 200 laps.
History
In 1958, a group of 15 Indianapolis-area businessmen and racers bought a 267-acre farm about seven miles from Indianapolis Motor Speedway to build a multipurpose racing facility. The drag strip was finished first, and the facility held its first event there in the fall of 1960. The NHRA U.S. Nationals moved to the track in 1961 and have been held there since.
The NHRA owns and operates the facility. Lucas Oil Products has held the naming rights since 2011. The current name, Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, put the words "Indianapolis Raceway Park" back into the track's name alongside the sponsor's.
The Truck Series raced at IRP from 1995 through 2011. After a 10-year break, it returned in 2022.
